Overview
The goal is to reach $10K MRR in about 12–18 months, using written content as the main growth engine. The plan has five stages, each with a revenue gate. Move to the next stage only when you pass the gate.
Assumptions: you are a solo founder or a team of 1–3, with a limited budget and an English-speaking global market. Timelines are realistic estimates, not guarantees. New pages rarely rank on Google within 3 months, so community and AI-answer visibility carry the early stages.
Three rules that apply in every stage:
- Write for buyers first: comparison, alternatives and "best X for Y" pages before "what is X" posts.
- AI drafts, humans decide. Automate research, drafts and distribution; you own strategy, insight and the final edit.
- Measure signups and revenue per page, not traffic.

Each diamond is the gate that ends a stage; don't start the next stage until you pass it.
Stage 0 — Pre-launch foundation (2 weeks before launch)
Gate to move on: tracking works, 30–50 target keywords chosen, active on 2–3 communities.
- [ ] Set up tracking. Connect Google Search Console and GA4. Add a "How did you hear about us?" field to signup; AI-search referrals are often missed otherwise.
- [ ] Write a one-page positioning doc. Ideal customer, the 3 jobs your app does, top 5 competitors, your honest differentiators. Reuse it as context in every AI prompt.
- [ ] Start listening. Set alerts for competitor names and pain phrases. Option: F5Bot (free, Reddit + HN) or Syften (~$20–30/mo, more sources).
- [ ] Join communities. Reply helpfully on Reddit, Hacker News and Indie Hackers for 20–30 minutes a day. No links yet.
- [ ] Do one keyword sprint. Pick 30–50 low-difficulty, buyer-intent keywords. Option: Ahrefs Starter ($29, cancel after) or Semrush free trial.
- [ ] Take an AI-visibility baseline. Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini 20 buyer questions ("best tool for X"). Record who gets recommended.
- [ ] Mobile only: optimize the app name, subtitle, keyword field and screenshot captions (App Store Optimization).
